It all started back in 2008, when I, as a lowly graduate student, was invited by a team of people I vaguely knew and deeply admired to travel to Ambleside on a grant that these professors had obtained in order to create an international research agenda around Mason and her work. 'Excited' cannot even begin to describe how I felt. Neither can 'intimidated.' I felt very much out of my league, and feared that I would really have nothing to contribute to this endeavor.
Now one thing you should know about me and my ADHD mind is that there is a jukebox (or playlist, for you young whippersnappers) that plays perpetually around whatever is happening at the moment. And during these moments, the soundtrack was Blind Melon's No Rain, because the video perfectly captured how I was feeling. As we were walking along the path one morning from Rydal Hall to the Armitt, I said, "You know, I think you guys are my bees." You can imagine how bizarre that must have sounded, and so I had to show them the video. If you haven't seen it, or if you just need a big smile this morning, watch the video here.
